Security Guard License (Unarmed Security Officer)
You must apply for a security guard certification through a valid security guard agency that is licensed to conduct business in Massachusetts.
Training and employment requirements are at the employer's discretion.
Security companies are required to register all guard employees with the State.
Firearms Permits (Armed Security Officer)
Training and employment requirements are at the employer's discretion.
Guards are still required to adhere to all state private citizen firearm laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- NOTE: A Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit does not qualify a security guard to carry armed.
Fingerprinting/Background Check
Employers will require a fingerprinting/background check before the guard stands a post.
